Vinson Detenamo

Vinson Franco Detenamo (* 1954 in Buada ) is a Nauruan politician and sports official.

Since the 1980s Detenamo was a member of the Nauruan parliament for the constituency of Buada . Among other things, he served as Minister of the Interior and Finance.

In his capacity as Minister of Sport, Detenamo helped found the Nauruan National Olympic Committee in 1991 and became the committee's first president, succeeding Marcus Stephen in 2009 . Detenamo was also President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation for 12 years . He resigned from this office in November 2013.

Detenamo was last elected to the Nauruan parliament on May 3, 2003 for the constituency of Buada, but could not hold his seat in the early elections on October 23, 2004 and was voted out of office. In 2010 and 2013 he ran again in the parliamentary elections, but was only fourth and fifth in his constituency, while Roland Kun and Shadlog Bernicke won a seat.

Detenamo is the father of Athens '04 participant Itte Detenamo and the uncle of Atlanta '96 participant Quincy Detenamo .
