history

Airport layout

Melbourne Airport opened on July 1, 1970 to replace Essendon Airport, which was nearing capacity . The new airport was built a few kilometers further outside.

In 1997 the airport was privatized. The original name Tullamarine Airport was given up in favor of Melbourne Airport , but the first name is still used in the flight plans of some airlines. It is the first airport in Australia to be modified for the Airbus A380 .

Airport facilities

Melbourne Airport has four terminals:

Virgin Australia uses the terminal for its domestic A330-200 flights.
