Brisbane Airport is an airport in Brisbane , Australia. It is located 13 km northeast of the city of Brisbane in the state of Queensland .
General
The airport is large enough to accommodate the largest category of passenger aircraft. In addition, as at Sydney , Perth and Melbourne airports , terminals were expanded to accommodate an Airbus A380 . The terminals at Brisbane Airport have several restaurants, money exchange offices, duty-free shops and a first aid desk. A motorway leads to the airport, and there are taxis, buses and the airtrain .
The airport is divided into two terminals, one for international flights and the other for domestic flights.
history
The predecessor of the airport opened as Eagle Farm Airport in 1928. During the Second World War , Eagle Farm Airport was the base of the Allied forces. Military aircraft were often housed there. After the war, the airport was converted into a passenger airport for the first time. Terminals were built and the airport was a destination for some cargo airlines. In the 1970s, the government gave the order to build a new airport north of Eagle Farm. This was built by Leighton Holdings and opened as Brisbane Airport in 1988.
In 2005 Brisbane Airport won the IATA award for the best privatized airport in the world. After the required 3,560 meter runway was added, the number of passengers increased by 3 million people within three years.
