The Ayers Rock Airport (also Ayers Rock Airport ) is about seven kilometers north of the Australian Hotel village Yulara in the Northern Territory situated airport .

history

The name goes back to the entrepreneur Edward Connellan (1912-1983), who received permission in 1959 to open a motel and operate an airstrip north of Uluṟu . The airfield is owned by the Northern Territory Government and has been leased to Voyager Resorts and Hotels Pty Ltd , which belongs to the Australian GPT Group .

The airport is an important starting point for travelers en route to Uluṟu-Kata-Tjuṯa National Park . Connellan Airport is used exclusively for domestic Australian flights and as a base for sightseeing flights over the nearby national park. The nearest international airports are in Darwin (1926 km N) and Adelaide (1582 km S).
