The Alice Springs Airport ( Alice Springs airport ) is about 14 kilometers south of the Australian city of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory situated airport .
history
The airport was built in 1940 for the military. It was mainly used by the Royal Air Transport and the United States Air Force to bring troops and supplies to the region. The airport quickly became an important base for the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II . This part of the airport, called the Seven Mile Aerodrome , was listed by the Northern Territory government on September 13, 2005.
Alice Springs Airport was officially called the airport from 1958. Today it is only used civilly and, in addition to Connellan Airport, which is located directly on Ayers Rock, is a possible starting point for travelers on their way to the Ulu r u-Kata-Tju t a National Park .
Infrastructure
The airport has two runways with lengths of 2,438 and 1,133 meters. There are nine parking positions for commercial aircraft on the apron, and you usually walk from the aircraft to the terminal.
Today the airport consists of a 10,000 m² terminal built in 1991.
The connection to the city is made by taxi and shuttle bus service. There are also numerous international car rental companies on site.
A small shopping line offers local Aboriginal handicrafts , opals and gemstones, outback sportswear, books and magazines as well as a standing café serving beer and snacks.

Alice Springs Airport is used exclusively for domestic Australian flights. The nearest international airports are in Darwin (1521 km N) or Adelaide (1533 km S).
There are direct flights to the cities of Darwin , Cairns , Townsville , Brisbane , Sydney , Melbourne , Adelaide and Perth .
Smaller machines fly to Yulara to Ulu r u .
