The Perth Airport ( english Perth International Airport , PER ) is an international commercial airport of the city of Perth in Australia . It is located southeast of the Guildford borough and is the largest airport in Western Australia . The airport is only medium-sized by international standards, but thanks to its position it plays a strategically important function as a hub for many destinations in Australia, Asia, Africa and the Pacific. It is also the home airport of the regional airline Skippers Aviation .

The airfield was established in 1944 as the Guildford Aerodrome. In 1952 it was renamed Perth International Airport.

There are a total of four terminals and a small terminal for general aviation . On the western side (twelve kilometers from the city center) are the two national terminals T3 (regional companies) and T4 (Qantas), on the eastern (17 kilometers) the international T1 and the newly built national terminal T2 (Virgin Australia).

Only the two national terminals to the west of the airport can be reached directly from the city by public buses. There is a shuttle bus between the western terminals and those in the east. The airport is accessible by car via the Great Eastern Highway and Tonkin Highway (for T3 and T4) and Tonkin Highway and Abernethy Road (for T1 and T2).

Airlines & Destinations

Several airlines including Qantas , Emirates , Singapore Airlines , Thai Airways and Air Asia offer direct connections to international destinations such as Johannesburg , Mauritius , Dubai , Bangkok , Hong Kong , Tokyo and Auckland ( New Zealand ).

In code-sharing and airline companies, such offer , Air France , British Airways , Air Canada , Lufthansa , Virgin Atlantic and United Airlines their services.

Nationally, Perth is connected to Sydney , Melbourne , Brisbane , Canberra and other cities and regions of the country through Qantas, Air Australia and Virgin Australia . Skippers Aviation offers several routes to smaller locations in Western Australia .

Qantas Airways started regular non-stop flights between Europe and Australia on March 25, 2018 . The QF9 connection with a Boeing 787-9 connects Perth Airport and London Heathrow Airport . A flight distance of 14,498 kilometers is covered in 17 hours of flight time.

Airfield features

The airport has various navigation aids. Both runways have an instrument landing system (ILS). A non-directional radio beacon (NDB) and a rotating radio beacon (VOR) with distance measuring equipment (DME) are available for navigation at the airport .

The dismissal was 1 ° West in May 2006.

Incidents

  • On April 19, 1945 a US Navy Douglas DC-3 (R4D-5) (registration number Bu 39067 ) flew into a hill near the airport in fog three minutes after take-off. All 13 inmates were killed.
  • On June 26, 1950, a Douglas DC-4 of Australian National Airways (VH-ANA) collided with a range of hills after multiple engine failures, 56 km east of the Perth airport, and was destroyed. All 29 people on board were killed.
