Porto Amboim is a port city in Angola . It is located in the west of the country in the province of Cuanza Sul and has 120,000 inhabitants.

Porto Amboim is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Cuanza Sul . The district covers 4370 km² with around 120,000 inhabitants (2014 census).

Public facilities

Instituto Superior Politécnico de Porto Amboim (ISUP) - the Polytechnic is a private body of public interest, the creation of which was approved by Presidential Decree No. 168/12 of July 24, 2012. The training focuses on engineering (electronics, computer science, telecommunications and civil engineering) as well as law, business administration and financial accounting. It is the only university in Porto Amboim.

Porto Amboim is one of eight Angolan port cities and the starting point of the 600 mm- gauge Amboim Railway to Gabela (closed in 1987). The place has an international airport ( IATA code PBN). The country's most important north-south connection, the national road 100, runs through Porto Amboim. This has been expanded and is currently being renewed.
