Cela is a district in western Angola . In addition to the official language Portuguese , Kimbundu is predominantly spoken here.

history

Since the 16th century, ever larger parts of Angola came under the rule of the Portuguese colonial empire . In the course of the administrative reforms of the governor of Angola, Francisco Inocêncio de Sousa Coutinho, the province of Cuanza Sul was established in 1769, and Cela became a county of the province.

During the Angolan Civil War (1975-2002) Cela was the scene of fierce fighting. In addition to the fighting, the mining of large areas caused a decline in all economic activity, especially in the major agriculture. After the end of the civil war, the refugees began to return and agriculture began to recover. To this end, public funding programs are intended to further reduce hunger and poverty in the district, through school meals, improved health care, microcredits and a number of other measures. Housing projects have also been started in the district, for example in the communities of Sanga and Kissanga-Kungo since 2012.

education

In addition to the primary schools, there are secondary schools, a technical school for health professions, and an agricultural technical school in Cela. The Instituto Superior de Ciências da Educação (ISCED) from Sumbe has had a branch here since 2012 . ISCED is part of the Universidade Katyavala Bwila University , for which it is to set up branches in the fields of psychology, education and history.
