history

Airnorth was founded as a charter airline in 1978 and began operations on July 4, 1978 as Air North International ; from 1981 she also operated scheduled flights . In October 2003 it took over Airlines of South Australia (ASA) with the intention of merging the two companies and continuing operations under the Air North operator certificates. In March 2004, she bought Emu Airways . In 2005 both companies were sold again; on November 9, 2005, ASA and Emu ended their flight operations.

In May 2004 Airnorth and the Indonesian Merpati Nusantara Airlines signed a contract for scheduled flights between Darwin and Kupang in West Timor .

Airnorth was owned by Skyport Group (55%), QTEC (31%) and John Gamble (14%) until 2015 and was acquired by the Bristow Group that year .

In August 2019, the Airnorth was offered for sale because its previous owner, the American Bristow Group, had gone bankrupt.
