Pel-Air Aviation Pty. Ltd. ( Pel-Air for short ) is an Australian charter airline based in Sydney and based at Kingsford Smith International Airport . It is a subsidiary of Regional Express .
history
Pel-Air Aviation was founded in 1984 and began flight operations a year later with an IAI 1124 . As of January 1989, the subsidiary Qwestair began with scheduled flights in Western Australia . The flight operations between Perth and the mining town of Telfer / Western Australia were carried out with a leased Beechcraft Super King Air B200 .
1995 Newcastle Aviation , an operator of Fairchild Metro II and III as well as Mitsubishi MU-2 - cargo aircraft , over. After the takeover, the Metro II and MU-2 were returned and the Metro III fleet expanded. In 1996 Pel-Air signed a service contract with the Royal Australian Navy and the fleet was expanded with the purchase of four Learjets . 1997 Pel-Air received several Metro IIs and rented them to the RAN for training purposes; the machines were stationed at the Wagga Wagga air force base . In 2003, the Metro III was replaced by larger cargo aircraft of the Beechcraft 1900C and Embraer EMB 120ER types .
From 2005 to mid-2007, Pel-Air was gradually taken over by Regional Express Holding . Also in 2007, a joint venture for flights for CareFlight International was concluded with Aspen Medical . The agreement includes air ambulance flights from Darwin International Airport with an IAI 1124 . The agreement was expanded in 2008 by the deployment of another IAI 1024 for CareFlight at Perth Airport . In June 2008, Pel-Air received the first Saab 340A cargo plane ; the machine was previously used as a passenger plane for Regional Express (REX) . The intention is to take over most of the Saab 340A from REX in the next few years.
Destinations
Pel-Air offers charter and ad hoc flights to destinations within Australia and the Pacific Islands. In addition, cargo and ambulance flights are carried out. The Australian state is an important client.
Freight charter flights are offered by the subsidiary Pel-Air Express .

Incidents
Pel-Air has recorded several incidents in its history:
- On October 10, 1985, an IAI 1124 ( aircraft registration number VH-IWJ ) crashed with two people on board. Both inmates were killed.
- On April 27, 1995, another IAI 1124 (aircraft registration number VH-AJS ) with a crew of two and one passenger on board had an accident approaching Alice Springs . Nobody survived the crash.
- On 18 November 2009 had an IAI 1124 (air vehicle registration VH-NGA ) had four unsuccessful landing attempts at Norfolk International Airport Iceland due to lack of fuel ditch . All inmates survived.
