Aeropelican Air Services Pty Ltd was an Australian feeder airline based in Newcastle , New South Wales . It flew up to seven direct connections a day between Newcastle, Inverell and Sydney , and six times a day on the weekends. The home base was at Newcastle Airport ( Williamtown ).
history
Aeropelican was founded on October 23, 1968, and flight operations on July 1, 1971. The company was originally owned by the Newcastle-based Hilder family . 1980 Aeropelican was sold to Masling Airlines , which worked with the no longer existing Ansett Australia . She then flew for Ansett and was completely taken over by her.
Aeropelican's main line was originally the connection between Sydney and Belmont Airport in the south of Newcastle. The airport was owned by Aeropelican. The connections were made with the Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter .
After the collapse of Ansett Australia in September 2001, Aeropelican was placed under state administration. In April 2002 it was taken over by International Air Parts . On June 20, 2003, an economic agreement was signed between Aeropelican and Regional Express. The home base was relocated to Newcastle's second airport, Williamtown, north of the city on March 1, 2004. The two twin otters were replaced by an Embraer EMB 110 and in 2006 three Fairchild Metro 23 were floated in to expand the route network. In December 2006, Aeropelican received the route license Sydney-Inverell after Big Sky Express ceased operations. Metro 23 was replaced by BAe Jetstream 32 . From February 12, 2008, the new Newcastle- Tamworth connection was launched .
In 2011, then CCO Fabrice Binet announced that they were planning to merge with Brindabella Airlines . On June 24, 2013, operations under its own name were discontinued and the fleet was repainted. After Brindabella Airlines had its operating license withdrawn, it had to file for bankruptcy on December 23, 2013.
