Inverell is a town on the Macintyre River in the north of the Australian state of New South Wales with almost 10,000 residents . It is located 620 kilometers north of Sydney and 430 kilometers southwest of Brisbane on the Gwydir Highway . The city is the administrative seat of the administrative area of ​​the same name (LGA) Inverell Shire .

In 1836, Alexander Campbell founded the 200 km² Inverell Station on the Macintyre River. The name of the property is of Gaelic origin and means something like meeting place of the swans , from Inver , the meeting point, and Ell Swan. The city was expelled in 1858 and received its first post office in 1859.

Inverell is a fertile, agricultural region. Mainly grain and maize are grown here. There are also various mines in which tin , sapphires , zircon and diamonds are mined.
