MacAir Airlines Pty Ltd was an Australian regional airline based in Townsville , Queensland . It operated scheduled services to destinations within Queensland, as well as long-term and ad hoc charter flights for the Queensland mining industry. The home base was at Townsville International Airport. Other hubs were Cairns International Airport, Brisbane International Airport and Mount Isa Airport.

history

MacAir was founded as a charter airline called McKinlay Air Charters in 1992 and began operating in the same year. Scheduled operations began in 1998. In 2000, the Collins family sold the company to Transjet , owners of Transtate Airlines . Both companies were merged under the new name MacAir Airlines. In November 2003, MacAir acquired Horizon Airlines . Since then, MacAir Airlines has grown into one of the main regional airlines, playing a leading role in passenger and cargo transportation within Queensland.

MacAir was a business partner of Qantas . Affiliation with QantasLink gave customers access to the Qantas reservation system and other options such as the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.
