Bedourie

Bedourie is a small town in the Channel Country of central West Queensland , Australia . It is located on a sand dune on Eyre Creek , about 1,600 km west of Brisbane and 200 km north of Birdsville . At the 2016 census, there were 122 inhabitants in Bedourie and the surrounding area. Thirty years earlier there were only 60 people.

Bedourie is the administrative center of the Diamantina Shire Local Government Area , which also includes the other two towns of Birdsville and Betoota . In 1953 the administrative headquarters were moved from Birdsville to Bedourie.

A mud brick hotel was built here as early as the 1880s . Bedourie also has a library, a museum, an outback golf course, a tourist information office, a racetrack and an airfield. If the Georgina River floods heavily , the city can no longer be reached by land for months.
