Gerard Garabwan
Gerard Garabwan (born March 10, 1971 ) is a retired Nauruan weightlifter .
Life
Garabwan, a plumber by profession, took part in the 1995 World Weightlifting Championships in Guangzhou , China , and finished 33rd and in the class up to 99 kg with an overall result of 260.0 kg (110.0 in snatching ; 150.0 in pushing ) last place. Although he did not meet the qualification standards for participation in the Olympics, a special feature of the rules allowed him to start at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . There he formed the first Nauruan Olympic team in history with Marcus Stephen and Quincy Detenamo . In the weight class up to 91 kg he got an overall result of 265.0 kilograms (115.0 in snatching; 150.0 in pushing) and thus came 24th out of 25 participants.
Two years after taking part in the Olympics, Garabwan took part in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur . In the class up to 105 kg he got a result of 125.0 kg in the snatch (10th place) and 170.0 kg in the push (8th place), which meant 295.0 kg and eighth place in the overall ranking.
