Richard Carrión

Richard Carrión Rexach (born November 26, 1952 in San Juan , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican finance manager and sports official.

General

Richard Carrión studied at the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, the University of Pennsylvania's business school , where he received his BA in Economics in 1974 . He graduated from MIT Sloan School of Management , Massachusetts Institute of Technology business school , with a Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems in 1976 . After graduating, Carrión joined Banco Popular , a group of companies in the financial services sector.

Charitable activities

Richard Carrión is considered a philanthropist who is particularly interested in education and sports. Together with Banco Popular he set up a foundation which u. a. Awards scholarships to over 1000 students. He also supports the production of music videos that cover the musical history and culture of Puerto Rico. With the help of a non-profit organization ( Sapientis ), Carrión is working to improve the education system. Sapientis organizes school visits by celebrities in order to put the educational crisis of Puerto Rico in the public eye.

Activities within the IOC

In 1990 Richard Carrión was elected an IOC member. He was chairman of several commissions. From 2002 to 2014 he was chairman of the finance commission and from 2006 to 2014 chairman of the auditing commission. He has been a member of the Marketing Commission since 1997 and of the Merit working group since 2003.

Richard Carrión applied for the office of IOC President in 2013. At the 125th IOC session in Buenos Aires , Carrión received 29 votes. With that he lost the election to the German Thomas Bach .
