Rolando Cruz

Rolando Cruz (born September 17, 1939 ) is a retired Puerto Rican athlete. He finished fourth in the pole vault at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome .

Cruz already took part in the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , but retired there with 4.00 meters in qualification. In 1959 Cruz won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games with 4.32 meters . At the 1960 Olympic Games, he jumped 4.40 meters in qualification. In the final, Cruz was able to jump all heights up to 4.50 meters in the first attempt. He only reached 4.55 meters in the second attempt and Cruz failed at 4.60 meters. This placed Cruz in fourth place at the same height as Eeles Landström , who had overcome the 4.55 meters in the first attempt. In 1960 and 1962 Cruz won the pole vault at the Ibero-American Games. Cruz was at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 again, but retired with 4.50 meters in the qualification.

Cruz had a competition weight of 68 kg with a height of 1.80 m.
