The Carlstad Crusaders are a Swedish American football team from Karlstad . The team was founded in Forshaga in 1990 and moved to Karlstad in 1991.

history

The Crusaders started the league game in 1992, in Division II västra (3rd division) where they immediately took second place and thus rose to Division I västra (2nd division). In the 1997 season, the Crusaders were undefeated champions of Division I norra and were promoted to the Super Series , the highest Swedish division. In their first season they reached the play-offs . They also reached the play-offs in the following years, but failed in the first round, the semifinals. In the 2002 season, the Crusaders moved into the final of the super series for the first time, but lost to Stockholm Mean Machines . From 2002 to 2007 they were in every final, but had to admit defeat to different opponents, twice only after extra time. But in 2003 they won the EFAF Cup . After winning the preliminary round at the Roskilde Kings (46: 0) and the NFA Monarchs Copenhagen (25:12), they also won the final in Innsbruck against the Tyrolean Raiders with 28: 7. In 2004 they took part in the EFL , but failed in the qualifying round at the later Eurobowl winner , the Vienna Vikings . In the 2009 season, the Crusaders won all preliminary round games. In the final, however, they had to admit defeat to the Stockholm Mean Machines with 20:24 and were only runner-up for the seventh time. A year later they won the Swedish Championship for the first time, which they did in the following years. From 2010 to 2017, the Crusaders won eight championship titles in a row, setting a new record. The series was only broken in the 2018 season and the Crusaders had to admit defeat to the record champion Stockholm Mean Machines just 42:41 in the final.

The Crusaders' junior program has also produced some successes. So you could win the U19 title five times (2000-2004), 1996 as well as 2015 and 2006 runner-up. In 2002 he won the championship title in the U16 class.
