Stanko Lorger (born February 14, 1931 in Buce , Benedikt , Yugoslavia ; † April 2014 ) was a Yugoslav athlete who won the silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles at the 1958 European Athletics Championships .

Career

Lorger already took part in the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , but dropped out as fourth in the second semi-final, as only the first three of the preliminary rounds made it to the final. In 1953 Lorger won the hurdles sprint at the Balkan Games for the first time , and by 1961 he won nine titles in a row. At the European Championships in 1954 in Bern , Yevgeny Bulantschik from the USSR won in 14.4 seconds ahead of the British Jack Parker in 14.6 seconds. Behind them three runners crossed the finish line in 14.7 seconds. The bronze medal went to the German Berthold Steines after the judge's decision , while Stanko Lorger was fourth without a medal.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, three Americans won, followed by the German Martin Lauer and Stanko Lorger in 14.5 seconds each in fourth and fifth place. Two years later at the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 , Martin Lauer was the superior hurdle sprinter in 13.7 seconds, and Lorger won the silver medal in 14.1 seconds. Also in 1958, Lorger increased his personal best to 13.8 seconds. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , Lorger reached the semifinals again and was eliminated there in fifth place in his run. Two years later, Lorger qualified at the European Championships in Belgrade in 1962 for the third time in a row for the final in the 110-meter hurdles, in 14.5 seconds he finished seventh.

At a height of 1.80 meters, Lorger's competition weight was 68 kilograms.
