Paul Voell

Paul Voell (born July 26, 1935 in Neuss ; † February 27, 2004 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German swimmer who was German champion in the 100 m freestyle five times in a row between 1954 and 1958 .

At the age of 16, Voell was able to achieve the title of German Master for the first time on July 6, 1952 in Berlin. He won the 100 m freestyle route with 59.9 seconds.

Until 1960 Voell was known for his outstanding achievements on the short sprint distance. Between 1952 and 1960 he took part in all international competitions, two European championships and the Olympic Games in Melbourne (1956) and Rome (1960) . In Melbourne Voell was eliminated in the interim, in Rome he made it to the semifinals.

Voell died in 2004 as a result of a severe stroke.
