Birgit Klomp

Birgit Klomp married. Osselmann (born April 27, 1940 in Düsseldorf ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. She started for the Düsseldorfer SC .

The athlete won the German championship over 100 m freestyle in 1955 and the German championship over 100 and 400 m freestyle in 1956.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , she started over 100 m freestyle . In 1: 07.9 minutes she was the last of the semifinals and was eliminated. With the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay, however, she was able to qualify for the final. The team ( Ingrid Künzel , Hertha Haase , Käthe Jansen and Birgit Klomp) came in 4: 26.1 minutes and only missed bronze by 5 tenths.

The season had better luck two years later at the European Championships in Turin . With 4: 37.2 minutes, Käthe Jansen, Gisela von Netz , Birgit Klomp and Elisabeth Rechlin were significantly slower than the Olympic team, but it was enough to win the bronze medal behind Hungary (gold in 4: 30.6 minutes) and the Netherlands (silver in 4: 33.2 min.).

Husband Friedhelm Osselmann and son Rainer Osselmann were successful water polo players .
