Georg Miske (born April 9, 1928 in Schönwald , Tost-Gleiwitz district , † January 28, 2009 in Leipzig ) was a German weightlifter .

Career

Georg Miske from Upper Silesia, who lived in Leipzig after the expulsion , was a mechanical engineer by profession. At the age of twenty he began weightlifting and was the first athlete from the GDR to make it to the top of the world in weightlifting. As a featherweight (up to 60 kg body weight) he surpassed the German records of two-time world champion Georg Liebsch in pushing and in the Olympic three-way fight. In the early 1950s Georg Miske joined the People's Police (KVP) and later was a major in the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR. He was a member of the ASK Vorwärts Berlin and Leipzig.

  • 1958, 3rd place , EM in Stockholm , Fe, 317.5 kg, behind Minajew, 362.5 kg and Mannironi, 342.5 kg;
  • 1959, 2nd place , championship of the verb. Eastern armies, Fe, with 307.5 kg, behind Zieliński, 360 kg and in front of Szabo, Hungary, 290 kg;
  • 1960, 12th place , OS in Rome , Fe, with 310 kg, 1st place: Minajew, 372.5 kg, ahead of Berger, 362.5 kg
