Georg Liebsch (born April 5, 1911 in Düsseldorf ; † November 10, 1998 there ) was a German weightlifter .

Career

Georg Liebsch was small as a teenager, but already very strong. For this reason he was drawn to the weightlifting department of Fortuna Düsseldorf at the age of 18. It soon became apparent that he had chosen the right sport. Its development took place steadily, and it already took 2nd place in featherweight (up to 60 kg body weight) at the German championships in 1932. Two-armed pushing turned out to be his best discipline, where he could best use his natural strength and became world record holder. His prime began after the 1936 Olympics when he became world champion twice. He could to further Olympics no longer participate: He retired in 1940 in the war , from which he returned to captivity until 1949 to Dusseldorf.

He began lifting weights again and had other successes at the state level.
