Christel Steffin (born April 4, 1940 in Hohennauen ), after marriage Christel Schulz is a German swimmer who is successful as an age group athlete for the GDR and the German team as a whole .

Christel Steffin began her career under coach Karl Wolf at the BSG unit Rathenow , since the fall of the wall Christel Schulz has started in the age group for the SG unit Rathenow.

In 1955 Christel Steffin won the first of five GDR championship titles on this route in the 100 meter freestyle , and she swam two more titles over 400 meters. During her career she set seven GDR records in the 100 meter freestyle. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , she competed over 100 meters and was eliminated in the preliminary run. In 1958 she took sixth place at the European Swimming Championships over 100 meters and reached fourth place with the layer relay. When she was eliminated from the all-German team at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , she qualified for the freestyle relay. In the final of the Olympic Games, the German relay reached third place behind the US swimmers and the Australians. With Christel Steffin, Heidi Pechstein and Gisela Weiß , three swimmers from the GDR belonged to the German relay, the final swimmer was Ursel Brunner from the Federal Republic.

Christel Schulz is a trained electrical installer, completed a degree in education and worked as a lower school teacher. In 2005 she won five titles at the Masters European Championships, in 2008 she won five titles at the Masters World Championships in Perth.
