Egon Drews (born June 1, 1926 , † January 13, 2011 ) was a German canoeist from the Federal Republic of Germany. He participated in the Olympic Games in 1952 and 1956 and won two bronze medals.

Career

From 1952 Drews competed in the two-man Canadier together with Wilfried Soltau, who was 14 years his senior . After the two had won the German championship over 1000 meters and over 10,000 meters straight away, they also started at the Olympic Games in Helsinki on both courses and won the bronze medal in each case. They were more than 1000 meters behind the second placed canoeists from Czechoslovakia, but only 0.3 seconds ahead of the French. Over 10,000 meters they were 18 seconds behind the second-placed Canadians and six seconds ahead of the fourth-placed canoeists from the Soviet Union.

On July 27, 1952, the Federal President awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf .

In 1954 Drews and Soltau won bronze at the world championship over 1000 meters. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , Drews competed over 1000 meters with Herbert Kirschner and was eliminated in the preliminary run. Over 10,000 meters, Soltau and Drews kneeled in twos and came in fourth, just over five seconds behind the third-placed from Hungary. Soltau ended his career after the Olympic Games in 1956. Egon Drews won the German championship title over 10,000 meters again in 1957 together with Donald Krämer , in 1958 and 1959 the two took third place.
