Herbert Georg Koschel (born December 9, 1921 in Bunzlau ; † August 2, 1980 in Koblenz ) was a German javelin thrower .

He won the 1949 International University Sports Week. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 and at the European Athletics Championships in 1954 in Bern, he was twelfth and fourth at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. In 1952 , 1953 and 1954 he became German champion . He set his personal best of 77.80 meters on October 14, 1956 in Cologne .

Koschel started for Rot-Weiß Koblenz . Since July 1951, as a member of the German University Sports Association, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf .

He died in August 1980 as a result of a car accident.
