Michel Scheuer

Michel Scheuer (born May 20, 1927 in Rodange , Luxembourg ; † March 31, 2015 in Krefeld ) was a German canoeist and canoe trainer . He was an Olympic champion in two-man kayaks in 1956 .

Scheuer won the bronze medal in a single kayak over 10,000 m at the Olympic Games in 1952 and 1956 . The 1956 Olympic Games ended for him with winning the gold medal in a two-man kayak over 1,000 m with Meinrad Miltenberger . In the same discipline he finished second with Gustav Schmidt at the canoe racing world championships in 1954 . At the canoe racing world championships in 1958 he won the titles in the four-person kayak over 1,000 and 10,000 m with Gustav Schmidt, Georg Lietz and Theo Kleine . At German championships in 1952 and 1954 he won two single kayak titles.

He was a member of the Bertasee Duisburg canoeing club , where he led the youth and senior training courses after retiring. He last lived in Krefeld . Scheuer was awarded both the Silver Laurel Leaf and the Golden Badge of Honor from the German Canoe Association (DKV).
