Kurt Hartung (born April 17, 1925 in Knobelsdorf ) is a former German marathon runner .
biography
Kurt Hartung took part in a regional race for the first time at the age of 24, where he took second place.
At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , Hartung was the first marathon runner from the German Democratic Republic to join the all-German team . In the marathon , he finished 28th. Hartung had become East German champion a year earlier .
Hartung graduated from the German University for Physical Culture in Leipzig and taught as a sports teacher in Berlin until he retired .
