The Federal Republic of Germany took part in the Summer Olympics in 1988 in Seoul for the 20th time in the Summer Olympics. The National Olympic Committee (NOK) nominated 347 athletes, of which 244 were men and 103 women. They started in 194 competitions in 24 sports.

The German team won 11 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze medals, placing Germany in fifth place in the medal table of the 1988 Summer Olympics . The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was Reiner Klimke .
