Gerlind Scheller (born October 15, 1967 in Berlin ) is a former German synchronized swimmer .

Career

Gerlind Scheller began synchronized swimming in 1975 at SC Wedding Berlin , where she was trained by Kity Kloss and Ute Golombiewsky . From 1980 she started for the DJK Teutonia St. Tönis and performed in a duet with Gudrun Hänisch . In 1982, 1983 and 1984 the two became German champions. They finished seventh at the 1982 World Cup and a year later they won silver at the 1983 European Swimming Championships . Her trainer was Gudrun's mother Sigrid Hänisch .

Furthermore, she was able to call herself the German solo champion from 1979 and 1988. With her new club Freie Schwimmer Bochum she also became German champion in 1988 in the group with Heike Friedrich , Doris Lehmann and Petra Geisberg .

At both the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul , she competed both individually and in a duet.

Personal

Gerlind Scheller grew up with her two sisters and three brothers in Berlin. Her father worked as a doctor and her mother worked as a physiotherapist. In 1980 she moved to Dortmund, where she attended the Leibniz Gymnasium.
