Gabriele Mehl
Gabriele Mehl (born February 25, 1967 in Hagenbach ) is a former German rower who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1992.
Gabriele Mehl started for the rowing club at Baldeneysee in Essen. In 1987 and 1988, she and Meike Holländer took second place in the German championship in a pair without a helmsman . At the 1987 World Cup both started in eighth place and finished in fifth place; at the 1988 Olympic Games they only reached the B final, which the eighth won.
In 1990 Mehl and Holländer competed in a four-man team with Cerstin Petersmann and Sylvia Dördelmann without a helmsman . After winning the German championship title, they finished second behind the Romanian boat at the World Cup in Tasmania, but ahead of the four from the GDR. In 1991, after the unification of the two German rowing associations, Petersmann and Mehl from the West German foursome joined Judith Zeidler and Kathrin Haacker from the GDR foursome. After winning the German championship, the boat took third place in the world championship behind the boats from Canada and the United States.
Only Gabriele Mehl started in 1992 in a four-man, plus Antje Frank , Birte Siech and Annette Hohn as the batter . At the Olympic Games in 1992 , the boat took third place, as in the previous year, behind the boats from Canada and the USA. In 1993 the four-man with Ina Justh won the German championship again for Annette Hohn, for Gabriele Mehl it was the fourth title in a row in this boat class.
For winning the bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games, she received the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 23, 1993 .
