Franke Sloothaak (born February 2, 1958 in Heerenveen , Netherlands ) is a German- Dutch show jumper .

Life

Sloothaak is married for the second time and has two children from his first marriage and one child from his current one.

Since 1996 he has owned his own riding facility in Borgholzhausen near Bielefeld . In 2011 he sold it and moved to Steinhagen (Westphalia) . Until April 2014 he worked for a year in Gaston Glock's stable as a trainer and consultant.

Athletic career

Sloothaak, born in Heerenveen in the Netherlands, started riding ponies at the age of ten and celebrated his first successes at an early age. At the age of 14 he won the silver medal with the Dutch team at the Junior European Championships in Ireland . In the following years Sloothaak became Dutch champions in his respective age group. Four years later Sloothaak started his apprenticeship with Alwin Schockemöhle , the German Olympic champion from 1976 . In 1979 he became a German citizen and from then on took part in German championships . Sloothaak is known for doing his horses very well in dressage.

In 1983 Franke Sloothaak moved to the stable of Alwin Schockemöhle's brother Paul . The following year he took part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and won the bronze medal on his horse Farmer with the German team. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Sloothaak rode the waltz king with the German team to gold . He achieved the same success eight years later in Atlanta , where he competed with Joli Coeur . In the individual competitions he was denied a medal at the Olympics. Sloothaak was more successful in other major competitions:

His greatest successes were probably the victories at the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague . He won the world championship title with Weihaiwej both in the individual standings and with the team . Four years later he repeated the team triumph in Rome . In the individual competition in 1998 he won bronze again with Joli Coeur .

Other outstanding successes were the victories in the Grand Prix of Aachen in 1989 with Walzerkönig and in the German Jumping Derby in 2001 with Landdame .

After Franke Sloothaak competed regularly in international tournaments until 2011, his area of ​​activity shifted almost entirely to training other riders. In September 2012, he won the Georgenburg Grand Prix (CSI 4 *) with Lascar , a horse owned by Sloothaak's Benas Gutkauskas . In 2014 and 2015 he competed several times with rental horses at show jumping tournaments in China.
