James Robert "Jim" Elder , OC (born July 27, 1934 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian show jumping and eventing rider .

Star on the Canadian Walk of Fame

He started at seven Olympic Games (1956 and 1960 in eventing , then in show jumping ), five Pan-American Games and three World Championships . In 1980, due to the boycott, he was unable to take part in the Olympic Games , but won the gold medal with the team at the alternate Internationaal Jumping Festival in Rotterdam .

At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome , he rode in a team with his brother Norman , who was then just 20 years old.

In 1968 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Canadian Sports , and in 1983 he became Officer of the Order of Canada . He has had a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame since 2003 .
