Dirk Hafemeister

Dirk Hafemeister (born April 17, 1958 in Berlin ; † August 31, 2017 ) was a German show jumper . In 1988 he was Olympic champion in team competition.

Life

The son of a building contractor was trained, among other things, at the DOKR - Federal Training Center in Warendorf as a horse manager with a focus on riding. He completed his training in 1982. During the 1980s he was freelance and had his horses housed in the stable of his friend Paul Schockemöhle in Mühlen .

Hafemeister's greatest success as a show jumper was winning the gold medal with the team at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul on the mare Orchidee , for which he and his team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf. In the individual competition he finished 19th. On PS Priamos he won gold with the team at the World Equestrian Games in The Hague in 1994 . Hafemeister also won two World Cup competitions, rode in five World Cup finals, became German team champion five times and won 13 nations' prizes in 30 participations for Germany.

After finishing his active career, Hafemeister worked as an instructor, trainer and tournament attendant. He died of heart failure on August 31, 2017, leaving two daughters behind.
