James E. "Jim" Day (born June 7, 1946 in Thornhill (Ontario) ) is a former Canadian show jumping and eventing rider and team Olympic champion in 1968 .
From 1964 to 1977 he was part of the Canadian Nations Cup team . At the Pan American Games he won gold in the individual competition in 1967 and team silver in 1975. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City , he started in the first Canadian show jumping team of the Olympic Games and won team gold with this team. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal , he started in both the show jumping and eventing riders. In 1973 he became the North American eventing rider.
As a teenager he met Ernie Samuel , who hired him on his farm in 1971 after buying his first racehorse. Together they expanded the farm into one of the largest racing and breeding stables in North America.
From 1966 to 1968 he was Horseman of the year three times in a row , four times he won the Sovereign Award as Canada's top trainer. In 1968 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Canadian Sports .
