Conrad Homfeld

Conrad Homfeld (born December 25, 1951 in Pinehurst , North Carolina ) is a former American show jumper and Olympic champion. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he won the gold medal on Abdullah with the team and the silver medal in the individual.

Career

Homfeld won his first national equestrian championships at the age of 15. In 1976 he won the title "leading grand prix horse" with the horse Balbuco . In 1978 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Aachen with Balbuco as part of the US team. In the following year he was named Rider of the Year by the American Grand Prix Association (AGA). In 1980 he became the second rider in history to win the World Cup final . This year he was voted rider of the year again. In 1984 he took part in the Olympic Games with the Trakehner gray stallion Abdullah , after he was nominated for the (boycotted) Games in Moscow in 1980 . At the 1984 Games he won gold with the team and silver in the individual standings. Together with Abdullah , he won the World Cup final again the following year. At the 1986 World Championships in Aachen, Homfeld was again able to win a silver medal in the individual. That year he was third in the World Cup finals.

After the end of his sporting career, he is active as an international course builder, among other things, he was responsible for the courses at the World Cup finals in 2003, at the Stuttgart German Masters in 2005, at the Global Champions Tour finals in Doha in 2009. He is also responsible for the show jumping courses at the 2010 World Equestrian Games . He is also active as a trainer.
