In October 2012 she was in 14th place in the world rankings.

Career

At the age of three, Kraut came to ride through her mother. She first rode gaited horses before switching to hunter riding (a form of show jumping), which is widespread in the United States. For a long time Laura Kraut rode both Hunter and jumping competitions. So she was able to take part in the show jumping World Cup final in Del Mar for the first time in 1992 , which she finished in tenth place. In the same year she was a substitute rider with Simba Run for the US equipe of show jumping at the 1992 Summer Olympics , but was not used here.

Around the year 2000, Laura Kraut focused completely on show jumping. In 2000 she was given the opportunity to spend several weeks in Europe in the summer season and to play tournaments here. Also that year she won the first qualifying test for the US Olympic team in show jumping. She was nominated for the Olympic Games in Sydney and rode with Liberty in individual 29th place, with the team she finished sixth.

Three years later, Kraut achieved her best result so far at a World Cup final, finishing fifth with Anthem in Las Vegas. In August of the same year, Kraut was nominated for the US team at the 2003 Pan American Games . However, her horse was slightly injured on site, so she withdrew and the substitute rider was used.

In 2006 she took part in the World Equestrian Games for the first time and won the team silver medal with Miss Independent and the United States team. In 2007 she was involved in two victories of US teams in the Samsung Super League and won the Hachenburg Grand Prix with Cedric . A year later, the second Olympic participation followed, crowned with winning the team gold medal.

The gray gelding Cedric remained Krauts' successful horse until he retired from the sport in spring 2017 and also competed with her at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in front of a home audience. The victories in the Global Champions Tour jumping competitions in Chantilly and Valkenswaard in 2010 were also achieved with Cedric , who is thus the only horse to date that has won two Global Champions Tour special stages in a row.

In 2010, she starred in the US TV series A Rider's Story at the side of her teammate McLain Ward . In addition to her active sports career, Laura Kraut also trains other show jumpers, Jessica Springsteen was one of her students.

Personal

Laura Kraut was married to the show jumper Robert (Bob) Kraut. Their son, Bobby Kraut, who was born in 1999, now competes in international jumping competitions himself. She is now in a relationship with the British show jumper Nick Skelton . In the summer, when she competes in European tournaments, she lives on Skelton's facility in Alcester , UK , and both spend the winter months with Kraut in Wellington (Florida) .

She studied business and economics. Kraut is an ambassador for Just World International , an aid organization founded by former show jumper Jessica Newman.
