preparation
The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein applied during the General Assembly of the World Equestrian Federation on April 25, 2002 in Rabat to host the World Equestrian Games in 2006. On September 18, 2002, the Executive Committee of the World Federation gave the Aachen application priority over the competitors from Lexington (USA ) , which will host the 2010 World Equestrian Games instead, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and the decentralized application from the United Kingdom , which included Hickstead , Badminton House and Goodwood . The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein expected 500,000 visitors to the World Equestrian Games, which were held under the patronage of Angela Merkel , and which would bring an additional 230 million euros in economic power to the region. A week before the equestrian games began, 425,000 tickets had been sold.
During the CHIO 2003 the official World Cup logo was presented on September 17, 2003, and in December 2005 the official World Cup mascot "Karli" .
