Kai Vorberg (born October 20, 1981 in Cologne ) is a former German vaulting artist . He is two-time world and European champion and eight-time German master in men's singles. Vorberg is considered one of the most successful vaulters. In 2012 he said goodbye to active vaulting.

Career

After initial attempts at a career as a tennis player and dressage rider , Vorberg decided to become a vaulting man at the age of eleven when he saw the world champions Barbara Strobel and Christoph Lensing at the German Vaulting Championships in 1992 . Between 1995 and 1999 he started in the vaulting group JRG Cologne , with which he won two silver medals at the German championships and one bronze medal at the European championships in Nitra . From 1997 Vorberg started in the men's singles and has since participated in all championships (WM, EM, WEG).

After graduating from high school in 2001, Vorberg completed his basic training with the German Armed Forces and was a member of the Warendorf Sports Fund between January 2002 and October 2003 . In 2008 he successfully completed his trainer apprenticeship which he had completed in Neu-Anspach . Vorberg is now studying sports management in Remagen and is the head coach of vaulting for the youth equestrian group in Cologne.

In the fall of 2010, Vorberg suffered a large herniated disc , had an operation and then began rehabilitation . All other sporting appearances, such as the FEI Vaulting World Cup , for which he was the source of ideas, were initially canceled.

At the end of March 2012, he completed his horse management exam . Since May 2012 he has been working as a junior manager at the German Equestrian Association . He also supports the national vaulting trainer Ulla Ramge . At the CHIO Aachen 2016 he was awarded the title vaulting master.

Vorberg said goodbye to active vaulting at the CVIO as part of the CHIO Aachen 2012. Nevertheless, Vorberg remains loyal to equestrian sport and continues to work as a lunge guide for other vaulters. In addition, his former vaulting horse Sir Bernhard competes in regional dressage tests .

Vorberg also studied at the German Sport University in Cologne .

In 2008 he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his sporting success.
