Grand Prix Freestyle

Strong trot in a freestyle

The Grand Prix Freestyle is the freestyle test with the highest level of international dressage tests for riders / seniors.

In this task, the participants must prepare a lesson program based on the Grand Prix Spécial, but they are free to choose the order in which they are placed. There is a possibility to vary the level of difficulty, in particular through the choice of the sequence of the individual lessons (and the resulting level of difficulty of the transitions) as well as through the combination of lessons (for example by installing piaff piruettes).

The task is ridden to music that the participant has freely chosen. In addition to the normal assessment of the required lessons, which takes the form of an A grade, a B grade (artistic grade) is also awarded. In this, among other things, rhythm, the harmony between rider and horse, the choreography, difficulty of the freestyle, music and the interpretation of the music are evaluated. Both grades count towards fifty percent of the overall result.

Riders under 25

The international dressage tests for “children”, pony riders, juniors and young riders were last revised in 2009.

In each of these age groups, three different dressage tasks are ridden: the preliminary competition, the team ascent (to be ridden individually, is used for team evaluations at international youth championships) and the individual task.

In the case of the "Children" (age group from 12 to 14 years on large horses ), shoulder-in and trot volts with a diameter of 10 meters are required in addition to gathered and middle stride, trot and canter .

In the age group of pony riders (age group from 12 to 16 years on ponies), additional requirements include strong walk, trot and canter, as well as simple changes of canter and half pirouettes. In addition, the voltes and half voltes are ridden on an 8 meter diameter.

The next age group is that of the juniors , the age group from 14 to 18 years (open to large horses). Compared to the pony riders, only half volts with a diameter of 10 meters are required in the area of the voltes. There are also flying gallop changes.

For the young riders (age group from 16 to 21 years) the test level has been increased again. With the voltes, whole voltes with a diameter of 8 meters are ridden here. The middle canter is no longer required.

In addition to these tests, there is also a test for riders between 16 and 25 years of age . In this “Young Rider Grand Prix” (also FEI Grand Prix U25), based on the Grand Prix de Dressage, piaffe and pirouette are added as lessons. Middle trot and shoulder in are no longer required.

For "children", pony riders, juniors and young riders there are also freestyle tasks that are based on the individual tasks.

Young dressage horses

The international dressage tests for young dressage horses were last revised in 2009. Preparatory tests for 5 and 6 year old dressage horses and dressage tests for 4, 5 and 6 year old dressage horses are advertised. The tasks increase in difficulty depending on the age of the horse.
