Christian Ahlmann (born December 17, 1974 in Marl ) is a German show jumper .
Private
Ahlmann lives in Marl and is a trained horse manager .
Since 2008 he has been in a relationship with the show jumper Judy-Ann Melchior . Her son was born in Datteln on July 27, 2012, two weeks before the expected due date and thus “in time” before the Olympic Games in London . Seven years later a daughter was born.
Athletic career
At the age of 14, Ahlmann received the golden riding badge for his success in show jumping. The driving force behind it was his father, who is very involved in trotting . In addition to equestrian sports, Ahlmann is also active in football.
He completed his training with Paul Schockemöhle . After numerous successes in junior competitions, he rode under Ludger Beerbaum for the "Audi Quattro Team", which started in the Riders Tour until its dissolution in 2004 . He rode for the “Sprehe-Feinkost-Team” until the team competition of the Riders Tour in 2006 was held for the last time.
Ahlmann was suspended from the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Games in Hong Kong on August 21, 2008 on suspicion of doping after capsaicin was detected in his gelding Cöster during a medication check . The subsequently opened and examined B-sample confirmed the positive result.
Since capsaicin was classified as an unauthorized medication or doping (on the legs, here as a pain-causing substance) at the time of the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Games, it had to be clarified what the Ahlmann case was. After he had initially been sentenced by the FEI to a four-month sentence for illegal medication (identical to the similar cases at the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Games) , the German Equestrian Association (FN) appealed to the International Court of Justice for Sports (CAS). In the Ahlmann / Cöster case, he saw the doping offense as fulfilled and banned him for eight months. In July 2009, Ahlmann filed a lawsuit against this with the Swiss Federal Supreme Court , as the CAS judgment would prevent him from participating in the next Olympic Games. This did not allow the proceedings to be negotiated. Ahlmann was also excluded from all German show jumping squads for two years until July 31, 2010.
After this suspension he was accepted back into the B-squad, at the beginning of 2011, due to a number of successes, he was accepted into the championship squad (A-squad). However, contrary to what the FN required, he initially did not sign the athletes' agreement on anti-doping and medication rules, but had them checked by a lawyer. At the end of March 2011, Ahlmann signed the athletes' agreement, which means that there is again the possibility of being nominated for national teams.
Ahlmann celebrated his greatest success after the suspension at the 2011 World Cup final when he won the World Cup with Taloubet Z. In the FN yearbook, Taloubet Z is listed as by far the most profitable jumper by a German rider in 2011, with an annual winnings of € 537,654.
At the 2012 Olympics , the German team fell well short of expectations. Christian Ahlmann did not go well in the individual competition either, with a score of 15 penalty points he was eliminated from the individual ranking with Codex One after the qualification test. The 2013 European Championships went better , where he and Codex One were part of the German team that won the team silver medal.
In summer 2014 Christian Ahlmann won the Grand Prix of Aachen with Codex One . At the World Equestrian Games in 2014 , Germany just missed the bronze medal, Ahlmann with Codex One was tenth in the interim ranking after the Nations Cup. Since he saw no chance of reaching the final of the top four, he decided not to take part in the championship (the gold medal went to Jeroen Dubbeldam , who was only 13th in the individual ranking after the Nations Cup). At that time, Ahlmann's focus was on the start of the Spruce Meadows Masters Grand Prix , where with his second victory after Aachen he would have had great chances of winning the highly endowed Grand Slam . However, he did not succeed.
The 2015 European Championships in Aachen were successful for Christian Ahlmann, with Taloubet Z he won the team silver medal and was one of the top ten participants in the individual ranking. A phase of success began for Christian Ahlmann with the 2015/2016 indoor season: He won three World Cup competitions in the Western European League and continued this winning streak in the 2016 green season. With Taloubet Z he came ninth in the individual ranking at the 2016 Summer Olympics , and he also won the bronze medal with the team.
For winning the bronze medal, he received the silver bay leaf on November 1, 2016 .
A few weeks later he and Taloubet Z were part of the victorious German team at the Nations Cup finals in Barcelona . In 2017 and 2018, Ahlmann (like Daniel Deußer ) again refrained from signing the required athletes' agreement, as this precludes going to ordinary courts by means of an arbitration agreement . He did not belong to any squad and could not be nominated for Nations Cups and Championships. 2017 was a sporting success for Ahlmann in the Global Champions Tour , in the overall season standings he came fourth. In 2018 Ahlmann won the Riders Tour overall ranking .
The first week of July 2019 was very eventful: his daughter was born on July 1st and he was re-accepted into the championship squad after more than two years. At the end of the week he won the two most valuable tests at the Paris Eiffel Jumping tournament. After his Nations Cup comeback at the CHIO Aachen, Ahlmann was nominated for the 2019 European Championships . There he was involved in the team silver medal, in the individual classification he withdrew to protect his stallion Clintrexo Z before the individual finals.
From December 2012 to August 2013 and from August to December 2016 he was world number one. In August 2020 he was 13th in the world rankings for show jumpers.

Several successful horses of Ahlmann are owned by Marion Jauß. The contact to Marion Jauß, who became known as a trotting driver and breeder herself , was established by the trotter breeder and father of Christian Ahlmann, Georg Ahlmann. With the purchase of the Holstein gelding Cöster in December 2001, Jauß, who, like her sister Madeleine Winter-Schulze, is one of the best-known sponsors of German equestrian sport, began to support Christian Ahlmann, which continues to this day. Christian Ahlmann also rides many horses that belong to the Zangersheide Stud .
