The Partner Horse is an international equestrian event that has been held annually in Leipzig since 1998, with an associated equestrian fair. It is the most important equestrian tournament in the new federal states.

The organizers are the Landesverband Equestrian Saxony eV and EN GARDE Marketing GmbH.

history

After attempts to establish an equestrian event at the agra exhibition center had failed, EN GARDE Marketing held a national tournament for the first time in 1998 at the Leipzig exhibition center . The planning for this was initially carried out together with the Leipziger Messe, but this withdrew this year. After a successful implementation in the first year with 13,000 spectators, the fair again participated in the planning, which has remained so to this day.

Already in the first few years, the riders wanted to upgrade Leipzig as a tournament. This happened with the successful application to host the 2002 Show Jumping World Cup. After this event had been carried out successfully, the jumping competitions remained international, Leipzig became the annual venue for a world cup competition for show jumping.

During this time the tournament consisted of international and national jumping competitions. Starting with the year 2001 to 2007 also reining competitions (under the name LE Grand Open) were part of the tournament. The LE Grand Open were advertised internationally from 2005 to 2007.

Since 2003, Leipzig has been the venue for another World Cup competition, the FEI World Cup four-in-hand driving makes a stop at the partner horse. After dressage took place as part of a show program in 2006, national dressage tests were held at the partner horse from 2007.

Instead of the reining competitions, vaulting competitions were held for the first time from 2008 . These have been advertised internationally since 2009. The major dressage tests have also been advertised internationally since 2009.

After another World Cup final, this time the four-in-hand driver , was held in 2008 , all planning was focused on 2011. This year the tournament was postponed from January to April and held four World Cup finals at the same time .

The tournament has been held without dressage tests since 2012. A new addition was the “Goldene Saddle”, held for the first time in Leipzig and organized by Hans Günter Winkler in Memoriam Debby Winkler , a style jumping test for four selected riders up to the age of 21 years. In spring 2022, Leipzig will again host the World Cup finals in several equestrian disciplines.

Tournament and fair

Venue of the horse as a partner are the Halls 1 and 3 of the Leipziger Messe . In addition to the aforementioned international competitions, regional competitions and finals of regional tournament series also take place. The tournament usually takes place in January of each year.

The trade fair program includes evening shows, which include show programs as well as tournament exams. There is also an action ring, special shows and many exhibition stands on the site.
