Janika Derks (born July 5, 1990 ) is a German vaulting artist . With the team of Team Neuss , she was European and world champion several times.

Athletic performance

As a member of Team Neuss, she is one of the most successful German vaulters. In national and international competitions she won numerous medals both in the team and in the singles and also in the pas de deux called doubles, together with her team colleague Johannes Kay .

At the age of 16 she became world champion at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen : She won gold in the team competition as part of Team Neuss. At the World Vaulting Championships in 2012, she won team silver, two years later at the World Equestrian Games in Caen in 2014 , the team won gold again. Together with the Neuss team, she was European team champion in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

In the following years Derks mostly competed in singles and doubles for the Neuss team. At the 2016 World Championships she took fourth place in the individual, and together with Johannes Kay she won the silver medal in the Pas de Deux. In 2017 she won the individual ranking at the prestigious CHIO Aachen . At the World Championships in Tryon , she won the individual silver medal and, together with Johannes Kay, the bronze medal in the pas de deux. In the same year she became German doubles champion together with Johannes Kay .

On November 3, 2017, she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for her sporting successes.

Private life

Janika Derks is a trained physiotherapist and lives with her family in Cologne. She is a member of the RSV Neuss-Grimmelhausen.
