history

Ebreichsdorf and the surrounding area around 1873 (recording sheet of the state survey )

The name is derived from the knight Eberich (Ebreichsdorf) and is mentioned for the first time in a document from Bishop Ulrich von Passau . However, the site of the present-day location may have been settled in early Christian times due to excavations. In addition, a large Roman or of the expected earlier near Ebreichsdorf Romans occupied Celtic have passed (Boian) settlement. Later under the Babenbergers the settlement was in so-called Angerdörfern for this time . The former castle in Schranawand (formerly Schranabatten ), a small farming settlement, was mentioned as early as 1120 . You can't see anything of this castle. Only the church, which was built under the Babenbergs, still stands today.

Unterwaltersdorf was mentioned as a market as early as 1304. The Ebreichsdorf Castle expected a fortress have been (fortress) against the always urgent in Hungary. However, there are no precise documents about the creation of the castle. In 1333, Ebreichsdorf, which had previously been owned by Melk Abbey , became the property of Ulrich and Berthold von Pergau, who owned the castle at that time. Since then, the castle's owners have changed very often. It was also briefly in Hungarian hands. Like all other places, it was also badly affected during the first Turkish siege . In 1568 Hieronymus von Beck bought the castle and completely rebuilt it with an extensive park.

In the time after that, Ebreichsdorf gained momentum through his loyalty to the emperor. During the second Turkish siege they remained relatively unscathed by a letter of protection with a pledge of loyalty.

In the second half of the 18th century, the lords of the castle set strong economic impulses. The result was a large cotton and sheep's wool manufacture, one of the largest in what was then Lower Austria. The main part of the building still stands on the main square. A large mill was created. This industrialization continued in the second half of the 19th century through the use of water power from the Piesting , Kalten Ganges and the Fischa .

In 1914 a branch of the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco was founded in Unterwaltersdorf and in 1915 the Don Bosco Gymnasium Unterwaltersdorf was able to begin teaching.

Ebreichsdorf hit the headlines in the 1990s when the Austro-Canadian Frank Stronach wanted to implement the so-called globe project there.

Sports

The sports center opened in 2013

Ebreichsdorf is known for its riding club, polo club and 18-hole golf course. From the opening in 2004 to 2014 horse races took place on the horse racing track Magna Racino, which was built by Frank Stronach and belongs to the Magna Entertainment Corporation .

The Volleyteam Roadrunners Ebreichsdorf plays in the Lower Austrian Regional League.

The ASK Ebreichsdorf has been playing in the Regionalliga Ost, the third highest level in Austrian football, since the 2015/2016 season. The home of the club is the sports center built by the municipality in 2012/13 , which has two beach volleyball courts, a skater field, a multi-purpose field and an adventure playground in addition to the football field. The costs for the new sports center amounted to 2.8 million euros. This exceeded the estimated construction costs of 2.5 million euros by 12 percent. Due to the success of the ASK Ebreichsdorf, the sports center has already become too small two years after it opened, which is why Mayor Kocevar is already considering an expansion.

In 2013 the European Vaulting Championships took place in Ebreichsdorf and are to be held there again in August 2017.
