Hieronymus Beck von Leopoldsdorf
Hieronymus Beck von Leopoldsdorf (* 1525 ; † November 28, 1596 in Ebreichsdorf Castle ) was an Austrian nobleman and scholar .
Hieronymus Beck was a son of the later Chancellor of Lower Austria, Ritter Markus Beck . He was brought up with the royal children and studied at the University of Padua . In 1555 he was appointed chamber councilor in Lower Austria , court chamber councilor in 1563 and chief steward in Hungary in 1568 . Beck inherited Niederwaltersdorf in 1554 , Ebreichsdorf and Castle in 1572 , where he died in 1596.
Hieronymus Beck spoke several languages and went on educational trips to Egypt. He brought old Turkish chronicles with him, which are important sources of Ottoman history. King Ferdinand I had one of these chronicles translated by his interpreter, Hans Caudir von Spiegel . Beck collected archaeological finds and owned a humanistic library. It also contained Beck's portrait book (also Lamberg's portrait book), a 320-page codex with copies of 235 portraits.
In 1557 Hieronymus Beck introduced the Reformation in Inzersdorf am Wienerberge .
