Life
Markus was the son of Konrad Beck and Anna Luttersey from Ravensburg. He studied in Tübingen and from 1510 in Vienna, where in 1513 he became procurator of the Lower Austrian land law. In 1515 he received his doctorate in law in Ferrara . Archduke Ferdinand I appointed him his councilor and chamber procurator in 1522 (he represented the claims of the princely chamber). In Wr. Neustadt "blood court" he led the indictment. In 1526 he became the Lower Austrian Vizedom (until 1539), in 1529 he was steward for the city of Vienna during the first Turkish siege . In 1530 Markus Beck was knighted by King Ferdinand in Prague. From 1539 until his death he was Chancellor of the "Lower Austrian Regiment" (that was Lower and Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia and Carniola).
In 1519 he bought a house in Vienna, in 1523 he bought Leopoldsdorf and then called himself Beck von Leopoldsdorf . Markus Beck was married three times: in 1516 with the widow Apollonia Lazar, née Leuninger (1482–1521). In 1522 he married Martha Heuberger (1507–1543), with whom he had eight children, only two of whom survived the parents (Barbara married Zinzendorfer and Hieronymus von Beck ). In 1544 he married Barbara von Werdenstein (or Wartenstein) (1508–1557).
Markus Beck began to write a family chronicle, which was supplemented by his sons Hans and Marcus and his grandson Hieronymus.
