Moosbrunn is a municipality with 1775 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Bruck an der Leitha district in Lower Austria .

geography

Moosbrunn is located in the industrial district south of Vienna in the Vienna Basin . The area of ​​the municipality covers 16.9 square kilometers, about three percent of the area is forested.

There are only the cadastral community and the village of Moosbrunn .
In addition to the main town, there is only one other place, the Mitterndorfsiedlung on the eastern border of the municipality, which already belongs to the Mitterndorf an der Fischa settlement unit (Mitterndorf and Gramatneusiedl municipalities ).

history

After the connection of Austria to the Third Reich in 1938, the town was part of the newly created District 23 Schwechat Greater Vienna incorporated. The municipality became independent again in 1954 when it separated from Vienna. In 1960 the shortwave transmission center was put into operation.

From 1954 until its dissolution on January 1, 2017, Moosbrunn was part of the Vienna area .

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1522 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1,466 inhabitants, in 1981 1,278 and in 1971 1,197 inhabitants.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2001 there were 50 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 25 in agriculture and forestry. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at home was 735. The 2001 employment rate was 49 percent.

In the immediate vicinity of Moosbrunn is the transmitter Moosbrunn , a short wave - transmitting plant of the Austrian Broadcasting Services (ORS). It broadcast the domestic program Ö1 until the end of 2009 , from 2010 it will only be used by the ORF for news broadcasts on an hourly basis. Free transmission capacity is rented to other providers. Until 2003, the system was used for the now discontinued international service Radio Austria International .
