Rupert Feuchtmüller

Rupert Feuchtmüller (born August 5, 1920 in Moosbrunn , Lower Austria; † April 27, 2010 in Vienna ) was an Austrian art historian and museum director.

Life

Feuchtmüller, son of a goldsmith, studied German and art history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1946. phil., In 1959 he completed his habilitation at the University of Graz for general art history and in 1965 he was appointed associate professor.

Feuchtmüller was an employee of the Lower Austrian State Museum , from 1971 to 1980 chairman of the " Society for Comparative Art Research " and from 1973 director of the Vienna Cathedral and Diocesan Museum .

With the "Melker Baroque Show" in 1960 he began designing the art-historical Lower Austrian provincial exhibitions , which subsequently ensured the permanent restoration of many architectural monuments and achieved a great educational effect. In 1985 he was awarded the Cardinal Innitzer Prize .

Feuchtmüller was buried in the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 31, row 8, number 12) in Vienna.
