history

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia . 1120 the place Ebergozzingen is mentioned in a Traiskirchner document, the Ebergassinger were the Unterertruchsess of Lower Austria. In 1334 the castle belonged to a branch of the Stuchsen von Trautmannsdorf family . In 1486 the Hungarians succeeded in taking Ebergassing with the help of Viennese mercenaries after a long siege. Around 1540 Andreas Thonradl bought the rule. The old fortification was converted into a Renaissance moated castle. Since the Barons von Thonradl were among the leading Protestants in Lower Austria, their property was confiscated in 1620. In 1642 the property passed to the Princes of Liechtenstein , who arranged for the castle complex to be expanded in baroque style. From 1788 to 1811 the rule belonged to the nobles von Trattner. Franz von Schloissnigg had extensive renovation work carried out between 1863 and 1865.

The early settlement of industry was favored by the Fischa, which created the best conditions for this through low water level and temperature fluctuations. In the time of Maria Theresa (mid-18th century) a piece boring mill or cannon boring mill for artillery was built in Ebergassing. Around 1770 Johann Thomas Trattner had a mill converted into a paper factory, which later became world-famous for the production of continuous paper (see Vinzenz Sterz ). One could also be proud of the production of the first banknote paper for the Austrian National Bank. The so-called Ebergassinger Kolonie was one of the first workers' housing estates in Eastern Austria.

In 1995, the Ebergassing attack briefly attracted public interest when left-wing extremists tried to blow up a power pole there and were killed in the process.

From 1954 until its dissolution on December 31, 2016, Ebergassing was part of the Vienna area .
