Udo Fischer

Udo Fischer OSB (own Eduard, * 1952 in Wienerherberg , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian Benedictine priest .

Life

In 1962 Eduard Fischer entered the boys' seminar in Hollabrunn and attended the federal high school in Hollabrunn , where he passed his Matura in 1971 . During this time he was a member of the Legio Mariae . In 1974 he joined the Göttweig Abbey and took the religious name Udo. After studying theology at the University of Vienna and being ordained priest in 1977, he was initially a chaplain in Pfaffendorf and Obernalb . Since 1981 he has been pastor of Paudorf -Göttweig.

In 1996 he founded JA - the new church newspaper - together with Franz Schmatz . Udo Fischer became known to the general public when he appeared as the voice of the victims of Hans Hermann Groër .

On February 17, 1998, Father Udo was deposed as pastor of Paudorf by the then diocesan bishop Kurt Krenn without giving any reason. After his dismissal, the then abbot of the Göttweig monastery, Clemens Lashofer , proposed him again as pastor on March 18, 1998, whereby Father Udo remained in office. With an episcopal decree of February 21, 2005, Father Udo Fischer was reappointed pastor of Paudorf-Göttweig by Klaus Küng .

On April 25, 2006, together with Helmut Schüller, he presented the “ Pastor's Initiative ” to the public, which, among other things, opposed a “dubious development of parish amalgamations” and the “vocation of all baptized to shared responsibility, codecision and participation” in the church would like to support. The admission of so-called viri probati to priestly ordination was also proposed.

In 2008 Udo Fischer received his doctorate in theology from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . He wrote the dissertation Bishop Altmann von Passau and his double monastery on the Danube; Studies on the early history of Göttweig Abbey . This was submitted to the Institute for Church History and assessed by Karl-Heinz Frankl and Meta Niederkorn .
